I may physically be where the buffalo roam tonight, but I’m still reading Houston blogs, and you should be too!
- Not Just Your Average Run-of-the-Mill Hispanic Museum, But a “First-Class” Hispanic Museum (Slampo's Place)
The “Hispanic Museum” is included in a laundry list of demographically fine-tuned pledges Locke reels off to his Hispanic, Latino, what-have-you supporters. It sounds almost like a parody of a big-city politician’s pandering–like something from The Wire in one of its less inspired moments. (Yes, we know, all politicians pander, to greater or lesser degrees, and to all sorts of people–including to white voters, especially to white voters–but in this case Locke’s enumeration of his “commitments” is so overt and specific it borders on being funny.)

I don’t like a fuss, but I do like to know that a manager is aware of what kind of experience the guests are having. I like to hear that what we were served was the exception, not the rule. I do like to hear some regret from the staff that we weren’t pleased. Reef offered none of those things.
We were pretty insulted and so there was nothing more to do but leave and get dinner elsewhere…and so we did.
But… but… but…. the head chef gives The Borg special treatment, is the talk of the town, and even has a radio show these days! What, normal people don’t get that special treatment? Tread carefully with your criticism, lest you be advised to leave town.
