Houston is installing signals that tell pedestrians how long they have to safely cross the street. In addition to promoting safety, it will save the city money according to a Chron Wrap Up story, but here’s another way to expand on the idea of traffic signals that count down — use them as a way to curb red light running (via Scott Henson):
…installing lights that visibly countdown with a digital counter on greens and yellows…gives drivers literally split-second information about when the yellow turns to red.
You know, if it’s about safety and not revenue.
