KHOU-11’s Rosa Flores reports on insurance companies that insure drivers without a valid license:
A sign on Long Point Road may pack a little bit of a surprise for some drivers. It reads “Get auto insurance without a driver’s license.”
That’s right. And local drivers are doing just that. Enrique Gallegos is one of them.
He says it helps him protect his family, and he’s not alone.
A lot of insurance agents in Houston readily sell policies to illegal immigrants who can’t get Texas driver’s licenses.
“The majority of the companies are now going to that because it’s a market that has been unexplored by a lot of companies,” insurance agent Rolando Martinez said.

The office of the Texas Insurance Commissioner said the policies are legal, adding that regardless of whether or not a person is in the country illegally, their policy will be honored.
Given the number of uninsured illegal immigrants, we ought to be happy that some companies are actually trying to insure them.
