Chron doodler slams Tom DeLay (with a Wikipedia assist)

Last week, an appeals court erased one of the few victories of the Democratic Left in Texas over the last decade or so, wiping out former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay’s conviction on money laundering charges that never should have applied (according to the court).

The Chronicle, long critical of DeLay, couldn’t refrain from taking a few shots at their old enemy, even as he claimed vindication.

This week, the newspaper’s left-leaning professional doodler Nick Anderson also couldn’t resist smearing the old enemy, Tom Delay, one more time — in the form of one of those strange animated pieces we thought had been retired a long time ago.

Matt Bramanti noticed something interesting about one graf of the narrative that Anderson provided below the animation (he doodles, animates, AND uses words!):

From the Wikipedia article on Tom DeLay: “DeLay was the target of the Justice Department investigation into Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff’s actions. Abramoff allegedly provided DeLay with trips, gifts, and political donations in exchange for favors to Abramoff’s lobbying clients”

From Nick: “DeLay was also the target of a Justice Department investigation for allegedly receiving trips, gifts, and political donations from Jack Abramoff in exchange for favors to Abramoff’s lobbying clients.”

See how he changed a few words? That’s fine journalism.

Okay, so Anderson doodles, animates, and (slightly) rearranges words from others! Not to worry, though, the Chronicle doesn’t mind that sort of thing.
