The Drudge Report picked up a fun story that seems to have originated with KHOU reporter Doug Miller, who noted that local activist Dave Wilson won an HCC seat in an unorthodox manner:
In one of the biggest political upsets in Houston politics this election season, [Dave] Wilson — an anti-gay activist and former fringe candidate for mayor — emerged as the surprise winner over 24-year incumbent Bruce Austin. His razor thin margin of victory, only 26 votes, was almost certainly influenced by his racially tinged campaign.
“Every time a politician talks, he’s out there deceiving voters,” he says.
Wilson, a gleeful political troublemaker, printed direct mail pieces strongly implying that he’s black. His fliers were decorated with photographs of smiling African-American faces — which he readily admits he just lifted off websites — and captioned with the words “Please vote for our friend and neighbor Dave Wilson.”
Local LibDem bloggers are, predictably, shrieking about Wilson’s victory.
We are not as worked up as some over this playing out of Democracy in America (not exactly the Tocqueville edition). The sort of low-information voters who like the Affordable Care Act but not ObamaCare can also give us other political outcomes. *shrug* Your mileage may vary.
I figure if the voters are so racist that they would only vote for a black man, then their outrage at being decieved is just tough caca. Get over it you racist bastards!
It shouldn’t matter if the candidate was purple with yellow and green stripes. But, unfortunately, if you are demonrat, all that matters is race. This is not to say there are not racists that consider themselves republicans, but when it comes to democrats, they own racism lock stock and barrel.
